When I first heard Maybelline were coming out with a makeup line specifically for oily skin I was over the moon. As a sufferer of oily skin, it has been a struggle to find products suitable to help reduce the natural shine of my skin. This line has been out for quite some time now but I have only recently purchased it (about a 1 month ago). I didn’t want to rush into writing this review, so I could allow myself more time to give an honest opinion on the product.
I was worried at first after I bought it, in the shop, the shade seemed to match perfectly, but once I was outside it looked completely different. Luckily though, it matched my face perfectly when I tried it out properly.
This foundation has pretty decent coverage considering it is from an affordable brand, I definitely wouldn’t say this has is a full coverage foundation, more light-medium, it helped to reduce the look of redness and slightly cover my under eye dark circles. It did oxidise a little bit, but nothing too noticeable. It has quite a runny consistency which makes it super easy to blend out and it does have a matte finish. I’m always scared to try a new foundation in case it breaks me out, but fortunately this didn’t happen.
The first couple of times I used it, I noticed that it did seem to reduce oilyness and shine, but the longer I’ve tested it out, the oilier my skin seems to be getting. I didn’t change my skincare routine or any other face makeup products so I can’t really understand why this has happened, I find it strange, especially because it has such a matte finish when first applied. Throughout the day I feel like I need to powder a lot more frequently than when I use my L’oreal Infallible Foundation. It does however, reduce the appearance of my pores, but I’m not sure if that has something to do with Maybelline Baby Skin primer I use beforehand.
Despite the cons above, I still think I am going to continue to use this foundation, but I won’t be in a rush to go out and repurchase. I still feel like it’s a good product and some of you may have totally different experiences with it, however for me, personally, it didn’t work as well as I would have hoped. Overall, I would rate the foundation 3.5 out of 5. It isn’t the worst foundation I have ever used, and it certainly isn’t the best.
