Recently, I signed up to a beauty subscription service called Birchbox. I watch so many YouTube videos of makeup box unvailings so was really keen to try it out for myself.
For those of you that have never heard of Birchbox, it is simply a subscription service which sends boxes direct to your front door for as little as £12.95. Each box contains items relating to beauty, including skin/body/hair and makeup. These are often ‘luxury’ sample sized products, with occasional full sized items thrown in there too.
What is in my March Birchbox?
Mindfulness is this months theme with the moto ‘Be Present Not Perfect’.
Blaq – Charcoal Peel Off Mask
This is a charcoal based face mask which aims to reduce clogged pores and blemishes. I was scared to try it out at first after so many videos surfacing of people having problems removing similar masks. I was presently surprised at how easily this peeled off, it was oh so satisfying. I left it on for around 15 minutes, as recommended, I noticed it had removed some blackheads and clogged pores which was impressive. My face appeared a little red after removing but this was only because my skin was being tugged when peeling it off. Parts of my face felt smoother, however I felt I had some patches of dry skin, but nothing a little bit of moisturiser can’t fix.
Benefit – BADgal BANG! Volumising Mascara
I was excited to try out Benefit’s new mascara. The bristles are quite small which is great for covering those pesky bottom lashes. It has a flexible applicator which bends to the contours of your eye, making for easy application. My lashes appeared instantly longer with just one coat, the formula is lengthening yet volumising at the same time. I was planning on wearing falsies the day I tried this out, but decided against because of how amazing my lashes looked. Without a shadow of a doubt I will consider purchasing the full sized version.
GLAMGLOW – SUPERMUD Clearing Mask Treatment
Upon application this reminded me of a clay face mask. I applied a thin layer all over my face, thickening it around my nose (the area I have clogged pores). I wasn’t overly keen on the smell at first but as the time passed I got used to it’s muddy scent. After a few minutes I grew slightly concerned as my face felt as though it was stinging, making me paranoid that I would break out in a huge rash. Fortunately this subsided as it started to dry. I could see where the mask was soaking up oils from my pores, mainly around my T-Zone. Once I washed it off, my face felt fresh, revitalised and nourished. Even though I like this mask, I don’t think I could justify paying £42* for the full sized version.
Amika – Bombshell Blowout Spray
I love receiving haircare products suited to my curly hair but I was pretty disappointed in getting this. This spray is specifically designed for use during blow drying. I embrace my natural curls and never use heat/straighteners etc. I just don’t have a need for this. I decided to try it out anyway, to tame my hair in between washes but it sadly didn’t have any effect 😦
Rituals – The Ritual of Sakura Foaming Shower Gel
Hearing that this was a foaming shower gel instantly made me excited, I’ve never tried one of these before. The bottle reminds me of a can of deodorant, the design is pretty much identical. Its main ingredients are organic rice milk and cherry blossom. The scent of this shower gel is beautiful, it is calming and relaxing I love using this after a stressful day. Dry, dull skin is a thing of the past after using this, skin felt baby soft after the first use. I was shocked at the price, just £4.50 for a full size, YES a FULL SIZE, it seriously feels like a luxury product. I would love to try some other items from this brand!
Thoughts on this month’s box?
Overall, I was impressed this month. I love the majority of products I received, with my least favourite being the blowout spray. What did you receive in your March box? What did you think? Let me know by leaving a comment 🙂
Stayed tuned for next months review coming soon 😀 x
Until another day x
