I honestly cannot believe that 2019 is almost over and we will be entering a new decade! Time is flying by at a crazy pace, I’m struggling to keep up with it.
Whilst 2019 may have been a bumpy ride for most of us, I’ve discovered a plethora of new beauty products that I thought I’d compile into one whole blog post for your enjoyment. There may even be a few random things in here too. As I am writing this introduction, I can already tell it’s going to be a long one. So grab a cuppa and put your feet up!
Fenty Beauty PRO FILT’R Soft Matte Foundation – £27
I’m only going to touch briefly on this because I have already written a very detailed review about this product, check it out here.
I love this foundation it has medium to full coverage that lasts all day. I like to apply with a damp sponge rather than a brush to avoid cakiness.
Nars Climax Mascara – £21
I received a sample of this mascara at the end of 2018 through the Glamour Beauty Club. I instantly fell in love so just had to purchase the full size. It creates length and volume without clumping my eyelashes together. It lasts all day and doesn’t smudge on my lower lash line, something which I struggle with from time to time. It removes easily when I take off my makeup, without leaving any black residue behind.
Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray – £19.20
Finding a decent setting spray was difficult for me, I wanted something that didn’t make my skin overly dewy and helped my makeup last all day. I was instantly blown away when I used this for the first time. In the past, certain setting sprays left white splotches on my face despite shaking the bottle vigorously beforehand. However, this doesn’t happen at all with the All Nighter spray. My makeup stays put without topping up, it melts powders into the skin and dries down pretty quickly. I use it all of the time and I’ve still get the bottle I bought at the beginning of the year!
Elemis Pro-Collagen Oxygenating Night Cream – £99
Again, I have an in depth review on this product here.
It’s such an amazing cream that plumps and nourishes the skin overnight for a more radiant and youthful glow in the morning. It works wonders on my combination to oily sensitive skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Caudalie Makeup Removing Cleansing Oil – £18
Wow just wow! This product removes makeup instantly! Apply to dry skin and work into the face using circular motions. The oil helps to breakdown makeup in a matter of seconds. It is really gentle on the skin, despite its removal powers. It has such a lovely almond scent, it takes me back to the times when I’d bake a Christmas cake with my Nan, so nostalgic! Want to help the environment? Convert to a cleansing oil/balm to remove makeup rather than wipes.
UTAN Jamie Genevieve CBD Tanning Water – £17.99
I have very pale skin, so when I heard that my favourite YouTuber was teaming up with UTAN to create this tanning water I was completely over the moon. It has a lovely calming lavender scent, which is perfect to apply just before bed to keep you nice and relaxed. Spray a couple of spritz’s of this all over your face and wake up with a subtle sunkissed glow. It has such a natural finish and certainly doesn’t turn you orange. I like to apply this a couple of nights in a row to achieve the perfect golden colour.
CHANEL Coco Mademoiselle Perfume – £77 (50ml)
This has got to be one of the best perfumes I’ve ever owned. I first tried this through the Glamour Beauty Club last year and instantly fell in love with it. So much so that my boyfriend kindly gifted me a full sized bottle for Christmas. After a while the scent of certain perfumes seem to disappear on me, but not this one. It’s such a beautiful flattering feminine scent that lasts the entire day. This perfume incorporates fresh orange, jasmine, rose and patchouli. I have a post dedicated to my top 3 perfumes here.
Trip to Poland
At the beginning of May this year, my boyfriend and I went on a short mid-week break to Krakow in Poland. It was our first time visiting the country and we were not disappointed. We were a little nervous to begin with as we’d booked an Airbnb apartment, something we had never done before. Our apartment was perfect, it even had a hammock in the living room, along with a little roof terrace. My boyfriend is completely obsessed with retro games so he was absolutely ecstatic when we discovered a Pinball museum. It wasn’t just a museum, you could play on hundreds of different Pinball machines, they even have some other retro games to play!!
We couldn’t visit Krakow without going to the Auschwitz and Birkenau concentration camps. We spent a few hours at each camp, it was heart wrenching to see and completely opens your eyes to what actually happened there. It is estimated that at least 1.1 million people were killed during its 5 years in operation (1940 – 1945). During the tour we were taken into one of the gas chambers were prisoners were told they would be taking a ‘shower’, it was so upsetting!
On the same day we also visited the Wieliczka Salt Mine (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). We walked down a long wooden staircase deep into the mine (135 meters below ground). It took a couple of hours to get around the mine and by the end of the tour we were absolutely exhausted. When visiting Krakow I’d recommend doing the Auschwitz tour and the Wieliczka tour on separate days, it was such a long day and would have worked better if it was a little spread out.
The Tattooist of Auschwitz Book – £4.50
After visiting Auschwitz earlier in the year I really wanted to read the Tattooist of Auschwitz book so I bought it to read on another holiday later this year. I was hooked from the first page! The author (Heather Morris) interviewed one of the survivors (Lale Sokolov) so the book is his actual account of what happened whilst he was a prisoner. It’s a whirlwind story which completely touched my heart in every way imaginable. Actually having been to Auschwitz really helped me to visualise the horrendous conditions Lale and his fellow prisoners were faced with. If you’re looking for a good book to get your teeth into I’d really suggest having a read of this. I purchased mine from Amazon, it was a lot cheaper than the likes of WHSmith and Waterstones.
Stainless Steel Water Bottle – £9.99
I wanted to encourage myself to drink more water than normal during the working day. So I bought a metal water bottle. I love this bottle because it keeps my water ice cold for hours at time making me more likely to drink a few bottles a day. I bought mine from Amazon, there are tons of different varieties to chose from.
Bamboo Cotton Wool Buds – £4.99
I use cotton buds (q-tips) quite regularly when doing my makeup etc. and wanted to do my bit to help the environment. I stumbled across these cotton buds on Amazon that are free from plastic and 100% biodegradable! They are just as good as your standard cotton buds, but with the added bonus that they are environmentally friendly! A pack of 2, containing 400 buds costs around £4.99, bargain!!
I hope you have enjoyed this round-up of my favourite stuff in 2019, I just know I’m going to adore each and everyone of these things for years to come. I’d love to know if any of these items made it into your own favourites this year. If you have any product recommendations that you’d like to share with me, please leave a comment and I’ll check them out!
Before I sign off, I just wanted to say Happy New Year for 2020!!
Until Another Day x
